Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi has once again called for a review of Bihar's liquor prohibition policy. He urged Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to consider implementing prohibition on the lines of the Gujarat model. Addressing the national executive meeting of HAM's youth wing in Patna, Manjhi stated that while the objective of the liquor ban law is good, its implementation method has several issues.

The Union Minister alleged that irregularities are being observed in the enforcement of this law at the police and administrative levels. Manjhi expressed his desire to convey his concerns to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and the Bihar government through the media. Citing Gujarat, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, he noted that while prohibition is also in effect there, people do not face the same problems and frustrations seen in Bihar.

The HAM chief emphasized that he has long advocated for a Gujarat-like prohibition system in Bihar. According to Manjhi, the government should strengthen its monitoring system and administrative accountability to prevent officials from misusing the law. Despite being a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Manjhi has repeatedly questioned the implementation of Bihar's prohibition policy. He has previously alleged that the law disproportionately targets the poor and vulnerable, while influential individuals escape its clutches.

However, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has already clarified that the state's total prohibition policy will not be withdrawn and will continue in Bihar. Meanwhile, a research report by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has also advocated for lifting the liquor ban. The report suggests that if prohibition is removed, Bihar's internal revenue could increase by approximately 14 to 15 percent, and government expenditure could decrease.
