For the past two months, residents of Khankah Mohalla in Katihar city have been grappling with severe difficulties due to an unfinished road and drain construction project. The main road in the locality has become a breeding ground for mud and waterlogging, making daily life a challenge for the locals. Stepping out of homes has become a formidable task.

Residents report that the construction work began but was abruptly abandoned midway, leaving the entire road dug up. This has led to the accumulation of rainwater and household wastewater, creating a foul-smelling swamp of mud. Children face immense difficulties reaching school, while the elderly and women fear slipping when venturing outside. The risk of diseases has also escalated due to the proliferation of mosquitoes and other insects.

The Deputy Mayor has expressed concern over the situation, stating awareness of the issue. He assured that he would promptly engage with the concerned department and contractor to instruct the completion of the construction work. He emphasized that alleviating public distress is his priority and committed to resolving the problems faced by Khankah Mohalla residents. However, locals remain unconvinced by the Deputy Mayor's assurances, noting that numerous complaints have yielded no concrete action thus far. They demand that the administration take the matter seriously and complete the work on a war footing to free them from these deplorable conditions.
