Katihar Municipal Corporation launched a major anti-encroachment drive to streamline traffic and ensure pedestrian space in the city. The campaign focused specifically on New Market and KB Jha Road, two of the busiest areas in Katihar. During the drive, illegal encroachments along roadsides and footpaths were strictly removed.

The operation was jointly led by the Municipal Commissioner and Sadar SDO, involving municipal staff, police, and traffic police personnel. The team cleared goods, street vendors' carts, and other temporary structures that had spilled onto the footpaths and roads in New Market and KB Jha Road. Many shopkeepers had extended their displays beyond their shop limits onto the road, obstructing traffic flow.

Authorities also imposed fines on several shopkeepers on the spot who had failed to remove encroachments despite repeated warnings. The fines aimed to send a strong message to prevent future encroachments. The Municipal Commissioner clarified that this campaign would continue regularly, and the city's roads would be kept encroachment-free at all costs. They appealed to shopkeepers to conduct their business within their designated limits and not encroach on public spaces, warning of strict action otherwise.

Local residents and commuters have expressed relief following this drive, as encroachment had made movement difficult and often led to traffic jams in these areas. This initiative by the Municipal Corporation is considered an important step towards making the city clean and well-organized.
