The sole government crematorium (Muktidham) in Bihari Ganj, Madhepura district, is grappling with severe waterlogging and a lack of basic facilities, causing immense distress to local residents. During the monsoon, the crematorium premises become inundated with water and mud, making it extremely difficult for families to perform final rites.

Due to the crematorium's low-lying location relative to the main road, rainwater easily accumulates. Last Saturday, villagers who arrived for a funeral reported significant struggles in lighting pyres due to excessive dampness. Rajkishore Bhagat, Bajrang Sah, Pritam Kumar, Dr. Dheeraj, Anil Raj, and Guddu Bhagat, among others, have demanded immediate soil filling to raise the ground level of the Muktidham.

Local residents claim that the issue has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the MLA, Executive Officer of the Nagar Panchayat, and local representatives, but no concrete action has been taken. Angered villagers have warned of protests if the situation is not rectified soon.

Beyond waterlogging, the Muktidham also faces a major security concern. The absence of boundary walls leads to stray dogs congregating, creating a sense of fear among those attending funerals. While a proposal for boundary wall construction was unanimously passed in the Nagar Panchayat board meeting, work has yet to commence. Although an elevated cremation platform has been built with funds from MLA Niranjan Kumar Mehta, essential facilities like drinking water (hand pump), lighting, and shelters for grieving families are still missing.

Responding to the concerns, Neetu Devi, the Chief Councillor of Bihari Ganj Nagar Panchayat, acknowledged the problems. She stated that proposals for boundary walls, soil filling, and beautification of the Muktidham have been approved. However, delays are occurring due to non-cooperation from some ward councillors and certain technical hurdles. She assured that all issues would be resolved promptly and the Muktidham's renovation completed.
