A 50-year-old man, Magister Yadav, was shot and critically injured by armed miscreants while he was guarding a disputed plot of land in Mirzapur village, under Nautan police station in Siwan district. The incident occurred late at night, with a bullet striking him in the chest. He has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to police, Yadav was guarding a disputed land parcel for a fee. He was sleeping on the land when three armed assailants on a motorcycle arrived and woke him up. A scuffle ensued, during which Yadav managed to snatch a rifle from one of the miscreants and apprehended an accused. In response, the other gang members opened fire on Yadav, shot him in the chest, freed their associate, and fled the scene on their motorcycle.

The snatched rifle was left behind at the spot and has since been recovered by the police. Yadav stated that he does not recognize his attackers and has no known enmity with anyone.

Nautan Station House Officer (SHO) Jitmohan Kumar reported that initial investigations suggest a land and road dispute as the motive behind the attack. Mirzapur village is situated on the border of Siwan and Gopalganj districts. The land Yadav was guarding is reportedly disputed, and there has been an ongoing conflict over a road. The SHO mentioned that a local panchayat (council) meeting was held approximately a week ago to resolve the road dispute, but no consensus was reached. Police are investigating all angles, including land disputes and other related issues. Yadav was initially taken to a Primary Health Centre in Gopalganj and later referred to Gorakhpur for specialized treatment. No formal written complaint has yet been filed with the police.
