Begusarai: A tragic accident occurred on Monday morning on the Matihani-Begusarai road, where a mother and son returning from their Ganga Snan during the Shravan month were crushed to death. The incident took place near Panagachhi Mod when a speeding brick-laden tractor collided head-on with their motorcycle.

Family members and eyewitnesses allege that instead of stopping to help the fallen victims, the tractor driver accelerated, crushing both individuals before fleeing the scene. The deceased have been identified as Geeta Devi (50) and her son Hariom Kumar (25), residents of Chhitraur within the Matihani police station area. The family currently resides in Hemra, under the Muffasil police station jurisdiction. Hariom had taken his mother for Ganga Snan and worship at Chhitraur-Chak Ghat earlier that morning. The accident occurred around 8 AM as they were returning home by bike.

Enraged by the incident, villagers placed the bodies on the road and blocked the Matihani-Begusarai route for approximately four hours. Residents complained that brick and sand-laden tractors frequently ply this narrow road at high speeds, leading to numerous accidents. They demanded strict action against the minor driver, tractor owner, and the associated brick kiln operator, along with compensation for the victims' families.

Upon receiving information, Sadar SDPO-1 Anand Kumar Pandey, Traffic DSP Ranjit Kumar, Sadar Circle Officer, and police from Muffasil and Matihani police stations arrived at the scene. Officials assured legal action against the culprits and government assistance for the bereaved family. Following these assurances, the blockade was lifted after about four hours, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
