Motihari: The Harsiddhi police in Bihar's East Champaran district have cracked a murder case within just 12 hours, arresting the victim's son, Alam Hussain, for the brutal killing of his mother, Najma Khatoon. The accused had staged a false narrative of robbery and abduction to conceal his crime.

According to the police, on August 19, Jhuma Mian filed a complaint with the Harsiddhi police station stating that on the afternoon of August 18, his wife, Najma Khatoon, and their son, Alam Hussain, were returning home on a motorcycle after withdrawing Rs 45,000 from Arearaj Bank. Near the Khori-Pakkar chimney, they were allegedly stopped by four criminals who assaulted them and abducted Najma Khatoon along with the money.

Upon receiving the information, the police registered a case and formed a special team led by the Arearaj Sub-Divisional Police Officer. During the investigation, Alam Hussain was questioned. Inconsistencies in his statements raised police suspicion. CCTV footage from the routes leading to the crime scene showed the mother and son coming from Sevaraha, but no suspicious individuals were seen following them, discrediting the story of four attackers.

Upon strict interrogation, Alam Hussain confessed to the crime. He revealed that he had pre-planned his mother's murder. He purchased a dagger from Arearaj and then took his mother on a motorcycle to the Khori-Pakkar chimney area. There, he sent her towards a sugarcane field, claiming a bag of rice was kept there. Seizing the opportunity, he stabbed her to death with the dagger. After the murder, he took the money from his mother and discarded the dagger and other items in the field. He then lay on the road, pretending to cry, to stage a robbery and abduction.

Police recovered a total of Rs 89,650 from Alam Hussain's house, along with the blood-stained dagger, slippers belonging to the victim and the accused, blood- and mud-stained clothes, and a mobile phone. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ravi Kumar stated that the police team successfully solved the case within 12 hours using scientific and technical investigative methods. The accused has been arrested, and further legal action is being taken.
