A long-standing dispute over a drain and a pathway in Nalanda district escalated into violence on Thursday (August 13, 2026), resulting in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old youth. The incident occurred in Gonduvigha village, under the Chiksaura police station jurisdiction. The deceased has been identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Vijay Paswan.

Reports indicate that a similar dispute between women from both sides over the same drain and pathway had occurred approximately three days prior, involving physical altercations. The matter was then resolved with the intervention of local residents and the police.

However, the dispute flared up again on Thursday. Both parties confronted each other, leading to an argument that quickly escalated. The confrontation turned violent with sticks and batons, during which Ajay Kumar was shot in the chest. Following the incident, locals rushed Ajay to Hilsa Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon examination.

The news of Ajay's death has caused widespread distress among his family, and a tense atmosphere prevails in the village. Regarding the incident, in-charge DSP Ranjan Kumar stated that the police have reached the crime scene and are investigating the matter. Chiksaura Station House Officer Gaurav Sindhu confirmed that a shooting incident occurred due to a drain-lane dispute, resulting in one fatality. The police are investigating all aspects and assure that strict action will be taken against the culprits.
