Heavy and continuous rainfall in Nepal has led to a significant rise in the water levels of major rivers flowing into Bihar, posing a serious flood threat to several districts. The Bagmati River is particularly swollen, causing a pontoon bridge over the Lalbakaya River in Sugauli, East Champaran, to submerge. This bridge, crucial for connecting Sugauli to Jamua, is now impassable, disrupting local transportation and forcing residents to take longer detours.

In Gopalganj district, the situation is also critical. Water from rivers originating in Nepal has inundated several roads, severely impacting daily life. Vehicle movement is hampered, and residents in low-lying areas fear water entering their homes. District administration has initiated preparations to manage potential flooding and has advised the public to remain vigilant.

Katihar and Khagaria districts have also experienced continuous rainfall for the past 24 hours. While this rain might offer some relief to farmers, the rising river levels heighten flood risks here as well. The meteorological department forecasts continued heavy rainfall in Bihar and the Terai region of Nepal for the next few days, which could further escalate river water levels.

Officials report that the Bagmati River's water level is nearing the danger mark, and constant monitoring is underway. Disaster management teams are on high alert in vulnerable areas of East Champaran and Gopalganj. Residents are urged to avoid riverbanks and stay in safe locations. Necessary precautions are being taken, and relief operations are being planned for affected regions.
