During a late-night vehicle inspection on National Highway-19 in Kaimur district, Durgawati police intercepted a container loaded with cattle. A total of 37 cattle, including three buffaloes and 34 large black male buffalo calves, were rescued from the vehicle. Police arrested the container driver, Wasim Khan (36), co-driver Mohd. Shahbaz (28), and Mohd. Salim (33), all residents of Dhanbad and Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.

Durgawati Station House Officer Girish Kumar stated that police received confidential information about a container transporting cattle in a cruel manner from Sasaram to Uttar Pradesh. Acting on this tip-off, a police team initiated a thorough vehicle check on NH-19. During the inspection, the suspicious container (registration number BR24GC5297) was stopped and searched. Inside, the cattle were found tied to each other by their mouths, legs, and horns, which police deemed an act of animal cruelty.

A case (FIR No. 410/26) has been registered at Durgawati police station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The police are taking steps to ensure the safety of the rescued cattle and are proceeding with further legal procedures. Investigations are also underway to ascertain the origin of the cattle and their intended destination in Uttar Pradesh. The police team involved in the operation included SHO Girish Kumar, along with SI Vijendra Ram, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Yogendra Kumar, and other personnel.
