Pakistani Singer Shanze Sial Becomes Overnight Sensation with 'Chhallare Chhallare Wal'
Shanze Sial, from Mian Channu city in Pakistan, came to Lahore seeking employment after completing her anesthesiology studies. She never imagined that a single song would make her an overnight sensation in Pakistan, India, and several other countries. Her song 'Chhallare Chhallare Wal,' sung in collaboration with singer Mohsin Lashari, is a reimagined version of an older track.
Since its upload on Instagram, the song has garnered over 10 million views and inspired thousands of reels. Millions of social media users, including many prominent music personalities in India and Pakistan, have shared it. Countless new versions and interpretations have also emerged.
In an interview with BBC, Shanze revealed that she had a passion for singing since childhood, although people often told her she lacked a sense of rhythm. Her connection with singing diminished further after she entered university. She stated, "I was quite disheartened because people would tell me that I had a good voice, but I didn't understand rhythm. You can't sing with rhythm and music."
Mohsin Lashari frequently collaborates with amateur singers to create videos. After connecting with Shanze, they together recorded this Saraiki song. Initially, the video received decent views, but it went viral in Pakistan like 'wildfire' after Indian singers like Sonandana covered it and gave them credit. This marked the first phase of 'Chhallare Chhallare Wal' going viral.
Both artists shared that after the song went viral, their inboxes were flooded with messages from renowned personalities. In India, several memes were created around the song, jokingly calling it Pakistan's 'latest attack.' Both expressed surprise at their sudden popularity and attributed a significant part of its success to the sweetness of the Saraiki language. Shanze mentioned that she had always sung Saraiki songs and was unwilling to change her style.
