Patna: A shocking incident unfolded on Tuesday morning in Bhabhanpura village, Phulwari Sharif, an area adjacent to Patna, the capital of Bihar. Lalan Sharma, an uncle, allegedly shot his 30-year-old nephew, Deepak Kumar, five times, resulting in his instantaneous death at the scene. Following the incident, the accused, Lalan Sharma, fled with the weapon. The broad daylight murder has caused a stir throughout the village.

Deepak Kumar, the deceased, had previously worked as a driver for Vikram MLA Siddharth Sharma. According to local residents, Lalan Sharma arrived with a pistol after a family dispute and fired indiscriminately at Deepak. Deepak succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Upon receiving the news, locals gathered at the crime scene. Deepak's wife, Kavita Devi, and other family members were inconsolable, casting a pall of grief over the entire village.

Upon being informed of the incident, Phulwari Sharif Sub-Divisional Police Officer Narayan Upadhyay and Station House Officer Ghulam Mohammad Shahbaz Alam, along with police forces, arrived at the scene. The police secured the area and initiated an investigation. An FSL team was called to collect scientific evidence, after which the body was sent to Patna AIIMS for post-mortem.

Police are investigating two main angles behind the murder. Initial information suggests a land dispute between the uncle and nephew, while a case of illicit relations is also being considered. Phulwari Sharif SDPO Narayan Upadhyay stated that a total of six empty cartridges were recovered, and the shots were fired from a pistol. The actual motive behind the murder will only be confirmed after the investigation is complete.

The police are examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas to ascertain the sequence of events, the accused's movements, and his escape route. The accused's wife and daughter have been taken into custody for questioning to gather information regarding the circumstances before and after the incident. Police are also trying to determine where the accused went after the crime and if anyone assisted him.

The investigation has also revealed that the accused, Lalan Sharma, had previously been jailed in a fraud case, while the deceased, Deepak Kumar, had also served about four to five years in jail for a murder case. Police are investigating both their past criminal records and aspects related to their mutual disputes.
