A significant irregularity has been uncovered in the mid-day meal scheme at the Government Middle School, Katsari Jagir, in Shivhar district, Bihar. During a surprise inspection by District Magistrate (DM) Pratibha Rani, it was revealed that while school records showed eggs being provided to students, they were actually receiving biscuits.

DM Pratibha Rani visited the school to assess the educational and meal arrangements. When she inquired about the eggs in the mid-day meal, children stated that they were given biscuits instead of eggs. Surprised by their response, the DM questioned the teachers, who failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.

Subsequently, the DM requested the school's files, which contained bills for eggs, indicating that eggs were being accounted for on paper. Observing this discrepancy, the DM seized the attendance register, mid-day meal stock register, cash book, and all other crucial files for thorough investigation.

The inspection also revealed a low student attendance, prompting the DM to raise concerns about potential discrepancies between recorded and actual attendance. The attendance register was consequently confiscated. DM Rani also emphasized the importance of cleanliness in the school and warned that negligence in children's education and meal provisions would not be tolerated.

DM Pratibha Rani stated that appropriate action would be taken against those responsible after the investigation is complete. This incident raises serious questions about the misappropriation of funds allocated for eggs and who created false bills to facilitate this irregularity.
