The multi-crore water supply system in Sonhula village, Bihar, has become a mere showpiece, leaving villagers deprived of pure drinking water. This situation raises serious questions about the objectives of the 'Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal' (Tap Water to Every Household) scheme. Under the scheme, pipelines were laid, a water tower was constructed, and connections were provided, but the water supply remains irregular and insufficient.

Villagers report that after the water tower was built, water was supplied for a few initial days, but since then, it has ceased. Even when water is supplied for a few hours, the pressure is so low that it doesn't reach homes properly. As a result, villagers still rely on wells, hand pumps, and other traditional sources for drinking water, many of which provide contaminated water.

Local residents have repeatedly appealed to concerned officials and public representatives for a solution, but their complaints have gone unheeded. Villagers allege significant irregularities in the scheme due to collusion between contractors and the department, rendering this important project ineffective. They demand immediate government intervention to reactivate the water supply system and ensure their right to pure drinking water. This reflects a broader issue across many rural areas of Bihar, where vital schemes fall victim to corruption and negligence.
