Two ten-year-old children tragically drowned in the Ganga river's 'kol' (a deep water channel) on Friday evening in Buxar district. The incident occurred in Niyazipur Panchayat of Simri Block. The deceased have been identified as Kajal Kumari, daughter of Gharbharan Yadav, and Ankush Yadav, son of Kishun Bihari Yadav.

According to local villager Suchit Yadav, Ankush and Kajal had gone to the Ganga riverbank to graze buffaloes. Ankush was sitting on a buffalo when it suddenly entered the water, causing him to slip and fall into the deep channel. Seeing him drowning, Kajal bravely jumped in to save him but also succumbed to the deep waters. A younger child ran to inform the families, causing a stir in the village.

Local swimmers and divers, after considerable effort, retrieved the bodies of both children, but by then, they had already passed away. The heartbreaking incident has cast a pall of grief over the entire area. Tilak Rai Hata OP Police have sent both bodies for post-mortem. Circle Officer Bhagwati Shankar Pandey, along with several public representatives, visited the site to console the grieving families and assured them of government compensation. Villagers stated that both children's fathers work outside Bihar in factories to improve their families' financial situation and are now returning home after hearing the news.

Administration and villagers have appealed to parents in the Diyaranchal region to prevent children from going alone near the river and waterlogged areas, as the rising water level of the Ganga has filled pits, 'kols', and drains around the river. This advisory aims to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
