A surprising case has emerged in Nautan block of Bettiah, where a woman became pregnant approximately one year after undergoing sterilization. Preeti Kumari, wife of Kanhaiya Kumar, a resident of Bajrangi Bazaar Ward No. 2, had undergone tubectomy as part of family planning in March 2025, following the birth of her two children.

In the third week of August 2026, Preeti began experiencing severe back pain. Subsequent medical examination revealed that she was three months pregnant. This report left both the husband and wife astonished. Kanhaiya Kumar stated that they had decided on family planning with his wife's consent to manage their family's financial situation and provide better upbringing for their children. For this purpose, they visited the Nautan Community Health Center (CHC), where Preeti's sterilization was performed on March 25, 2025.

For nearly a year after the operation, everything remained normal. The couple had no inkling of any complications. After the ultrasound report came to light, they are now questioning the healthcare system and the sterilization procedure, seeking justice.

Dr. Amresh Kumar, in-charge of Nautan CHC, confirmed that Preeti's sterilization was performed at Nautan CHC on March 25, 2025, and the operation was carried out by Dr. Akanksha Verma from Dr. Saroj Verma Nursing Home in Kamalnath Nagar, Bettiah. According to Dr. Akanksha Verma, cases of pregnancy after sterilization are extremely rare and this could be an exception. She also mentioned that in cases of pregnancy after sterilization, there is a provision for government compensation of approximately INR 25,000. Currently, the situation will only become clear after a detailed investigation into the matter.
