Durga Puja in Mahinath Nagar Since 1835: Fair with Swings and Meena Bazaar on October 20-21
The Vaishnavi Durga Sthan in Mahinath Nagar, located in the Beldaur block of Khagaria district, has been celebrating Durga Puja since 1835. This tradition, spanning nearly 189 years, makes it one of the oldest Durga Pujas in the region. This year, a grand fair will be organized on October 20 and 21. The fair will feature a special Meena Bazaar and various swings, which are expected to be a major attraction for women and children.
Village head Dinesh Yadav stated that the puja was initiated by the ancestors of Bhagwat Singh, a resident of the village. Initially, the worship took place in a simple hut made of straw and thatch, but later, with the cooperation of the villagers, a magnificent temple was constructed. Since then, this place has been a primary center of faith for devotees.
Strict security arrangements have been made for the fair. More than five dozen youths have been deployed as volunteers. Additionally, Dr. Prabhat Ranjan has been appointed as the Magistrate and SI Umesh Prasad Yadav as the Police Officer. Along with additional police forces, disaster response volunteers Shravan Kumar and Sanjit Kumar will also assist in maintaining security.
On October 20, 101 goats will be sacrificed away from the temple premises. Special arrangements have been made for the convenience and safety of women and children. Head Dinesh Yadav also informed that cultural programs will be organized on October 20 and 21, adding to the festive atmosphere of the fair.
