West Champaran: A tiger that attacked 65-year-old Akalu Yadav near Bisaha village, adjacent to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in the Valmikinagar forest area, died shortly after the incident on Thursday. The tiger's carcass has been secured at the Skill Development Centre in Kotraha. The exact cause of death will be revealed after a medical examination and post-mortem in the presence of senior forest officials.

According to information, a team from the forest department, led by Valmikinagar Ranger Satyam Kumar, reached the spot after receiving news of the attack on the villager. The team began tracking the tiger's movements based on its pugmarks. During the search, the male tiger was found dead in the jungle bushes. Its body bore several deep wounds, raising suspicions that it had been involved in a fierce fight with another tiger. It is believed that the severe injuries left it weak and unable to hunt.

Eyewitnesses stated that the tiger attacked Akalu Yadav, but about half a dozen villagers nearby bravely raised an alarm and resisted, saving the elderly man. The tiger then retreated into the forest, where it died a short distance away.

Gaurav Ojha, Conservator of Forests and Director, confirmed the tiger's death, stating that the forest department team had been continuously monitoring it after the attack on the villager. Its body was recovered during this period. Preliminary observations suggest the deep wounds on its body indicate a struggle with another tiger. He added that the medical team is completing the post-mortem process, and the official cause of death will be confirmed after the final report.
